Players turning 18
Since January 2022, US Soccer has instituted a Safe Sport requirement for all players who are 18 or turning 18 during the upcoming season) and participating on youth soccer teams.
There is no fee for completing this training.
Procedure to start and complete your player SafeSport training:
While most people can intuitively navigate account creation on various websites, the GotSport process can be quite confusing. We urge you to actually read these instructions carefully to save yourself a lot of frustration. Don't assume that you will just intuitive know how to proceed.
1) A club admin must create an entirely new account for the player within the GotSport system, using the player's email address. It can't be an email address that the parents previously used within GotSport to manage their player when they were a minor.
From the player's perspective - the gotsport.com website can't be used to create a profile, only to establish or reset a password once a club admin creates the account. This links the player to the club and to the training requirement.
2) Players can now proceed to gotsport.com. The first time in they will establish their initial password by using the "Forgot Password" function. There is no temporary password from your club admin. Remember, the email must be the player's email, no longer the parent's which may have previously been used.
3) Set up your initial password: An email will be sent to what the club admin entered for their account. If no email arrives check spam/junk folders.
If you are having trouble resetting you password (IE an endless loop of password reset screens without the ability to enter the newly set password) or any other login issues at this point, clear your browser cache or use a different browser.
4) Once in the GotSport system follow the instructions to access the training area.
5) After your training is complete you do not have to proceed through the medical waiver.
6) Club admins sometimes have to pull in the course completion record.
In some cases after the player completes the training their account still shows as Incomplete. In this case the club admins must go back into the player's profile, click the red Incomplete link, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Check Records button. This will sync the course completion to the GotSport record and they can now be approved on rosters.

General guidance and troubleshooting:
Existing GotSport Player records must be updated by the Primary Club to an adult GotSport account. The Player must have their own unique Email/UserID that matches their Safesport account Email/UserID. Do not use the parent's email as you have been previously been doing. The new player record must also be entered as an adult record.
Players that created their own GotSport accounts outside of the Club will likely have duplicate orphan records that must be corrected by NYSWYSA.
When updating a Player record make sure that the Player's legal name is in the record. Nicknames, initials, short monikers, etc. are not accepted.
Player records cannot be updated with Parent emails and parents cannot do the training for the Player. Doing so is a violation of MAAPP policy.
Always ask the Player if they already have their own Email/UserID before making any updates. Players that are existing Referees, Assistant Coaches and/or Volunteers will already have updated accounts. Referees need to do Safesport in their Learning Center accounts and may already have the certification.
The Player must log into their GotSport account in order for the Safesport credential to be valid. Third party validations will not pass the audit phase and the Player will be unapproved from any existing rosters if no valid, current season login appears in their account.
When updating a Player account if you encounter a "Email Already in Use" error you will need to contact riskmanagement@nyswysa.org for assistance. This error means there are duplicate records in GotSport you cannot see.
Player records that are marked "ERRORS" must be corrected. There is a Status box that you can check for instructions when you open the Player Safesport Requirement. The Player's Safesport will not clear until that error is addressed.
